D.S. & Durga

deadpan grotesk names on parchment labels

D.S. & Durga uses one identical flacon for every scent: a short, heavy round bottle with a thick clear base, a glossy black cylindrical cap over a black collar, and flint glass that shows the juice colour. A single landscape parchment-beige label (#d9c7a5) is centred on the front at about a third of the bottle height, and the scent name is set big and blunt in heavy black grotesk capitals, as if the name were the whole idea. Below it the house name and 'eau de parfum 50 mL' sit small and centred. The only variation is the juice colour and, for a darker scent, a reversed near-black label with metallic gold lettering over amber liquid.

Typography

Suggested visual alternatives, not confirmed brand typefaces. Any scale below is an illustrative estimate.

The scent name dominates the label, set in heavy capitals across one or two centred lines and allowed to be long, odd or conversational. Everything else is a small centred footer: house name in capitals, then format and volume in lowercase.

Front Panel

Schematic reading order. The diagram’s zone heights do not represent measured artwork proportions.

One landscape rectangle centred on the front of the round bottle, roughly a third of its height, with all text centred.

ZoneContent
Upper two thirdsScent name in large heavy grotesk capitals, one or two lines
Lower thirdHouse name in small capitals, format and 50 mL volume

Range System

Everything is fixed (bottle, cap, label size, typeface); scents differ only by name and by the colour of the juice, with an inverted black and gold label reserved for a dark, rich scent.

  • Most scents = parchment label, black type, pale straw juice
  • Green and citrus scents = same label over almost clear juice
  • Amber scent = black label with gold type over amber liquid

Back of Pack & Shelf

No back label on the flacon; legal copy is printed small on the base or on the outer box, which repeats the front label layout as a flat panel.

  • Scent name and house name repeated on the box front
  • Ingredient list and allergen line on the box side
  • Origin line and volume in ml and fl oz
  • Batch code etched or printed on the bottle base
  • Barcode and recycling marks on the box bottom

On shelf

Lined up, the bottles read as a row of identical black caps and beige labels, and the shopper scans the names like book spines; the one black label breaks the row on purpose.

Imagery

None; the names are the story, and the perfume colour through the glass is the only image.

Guidelines

Do

  • Use one heavy round clear flacon with a tall black cap for the whole range.
  • Centre one landscape parchment-beige (#d9c7a5) label at about a third of bottle height.
  • Set the scent name in heavy grotesk capitals (Display) at about 85% of label width, breaking onto two lines if long.
  • Keep the house name and 'eau de parfum 50 mL' small and centred below.
  • Let the juice colour through the glass be the only variation between scents.
  • Reverse to a black label with gold lettering only for one dark, rich scent.

Don't

  • Don't use serif, script or decorative type.
  • Don't add illustrations, borders or ornaments to the label.
  • Don't tint the glass or colour the cap.
  • Don't change label size or position between scents.
  • Don't use more than one ink colour on a label.
  • Don't add descriptive copy about the notes to the front.
